Understanding the results

What this information means

The four results describe where the current request leaves the network, how the database identifies that address, and which network operates that public IP.

Public IP

Your public IP is the network address that destination websites can usually see. Run the check before and after connecting to a route to confirm whether the public IP changed. If it did not, first verify the client connection, then review your system proxy or routing rules.

Country and region

Country and region reflect the database’s classification of the IP address range, not your device’s precise location. When the route exit matches the selected region, traffic is usually being routed as expected. If it does not, reconnect or try another route and check again.

ISP

The ISP field identifies the provider, data center, or autonomous system associated with the public IP. It can help distinguish a residential connection from a data-center connection, but the name alone does not indicate speed, stability, or access scope.

Proxy status

Proxy status comes from a classification field returned by the GeoIP endpoint. When detected, it only means the database assigned the address to a related category; when not detected, it only reflects the current database record. This field does not indicate whether the connection is encrypted.

DNS CHECK

DNS leak check

DNS converts domain names into network addresses. If your public IP has changed but DNS queries are still handled by the previous network environment, web requests and DNS requests may appear to belong to different networks.

This page’s GeoIP endpoint reads only the public network information for the current web request; it cannot directly enumerate every DNS resolver your device is using. For that reason, this page does not present a public IP lookup as a complete DNS test.

Recommended check sequence

  • Confirm the public IP changed Run this check before and after connecting to a route, then confirm that the public IP and country or region changed as expected.
  • Review system DNS settings Check your system and client network settings to ensure DNS is not fixed to a resolver address that is no longer appropriate.
  • Check whether the locations match Use your system or browser’s network diagnostics to view the DNS resolver’s location, then compare it with the current public IP region.
  • Reconnect If the locations appear inconsistent, disconnect and reconnect to the route, clear the local DNS cache, and run the checks again.
